Job Context

The Tax Specialist is a high-level expert in corporate and individual taxation. He or she handles complex engagements, advises management and clients on optimal tax strategies, and contributes to positioning the firm as a recognized leader in tax planning. This role combines cutting-edge technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence important business decisions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design and implement tax planning strategies for businesses and high-net-worth individuals
  • Conduct in-depth tax research and draft tax opinions and memoranda
  • Advise clients on corporate restructurings, mergers, acquisitions, and estate freezes
  • Tax planning for individuals with complex wealth situations (investment income, foreign assets, trusts)
  • Analyze tax impacts of complex transactions (business sales, reorganizations)
  • Proactively monitor tax developments and inform clients of relevant legislative changes
  • Represent clients during tax audits or negotiations with authorities (CRA, Revenu Québec)
  • Collaborate with CPA, legal, and financial teams on integrated engagements
  • Mentor and train team members on tax matters

Desired Profile

  • CPA with tax specialization (DESS in taxation, CICA In-Depth, or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in corporate and individual taxation
  • Expertise in Canadian and Quebec taxation, including corporate, individual, and complex transaction taxation
  • Ability to conduct complex tax research and formulate clear recommendations
  • Strong analytical and writing skills
  • Ability to communicate complex tax issues to non-specialized clients
  • Proficiency in tax software (TaxCycle, ImpôtExpert, Taxprep, or equivalent)
  • Leadership, autonomy, and ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously
  • Ability to work with artificial intelligence tools (e.g., assisted tax research, opinion drafting)

Additional Assets

  • Knowledge of international taxation and cross-border Canada-U.S. issues
  • Experience in tax litigation or disputes with tax authorities
